I always look forward to Ramadhan and Eid al-Fitr, even though I am not a Moslem. I remember when I was young, my mom used to make kolak pisang (banana compote); a sweet soupy dessert made with palm sugar, coconut milk, pandan leaves, slices of banana, sweet potatoes and the best part is kolang kaling (sugar palm fruit). Sometimes, I added a good chunk of bread there - I know I can be weird at times .

I've been tempted to make kolak, but I find it easier to buy than make it from scratch. Besides, my dad doesn't like sweets. Who knows, one of these days I might give in to the temptation and make it
