Thumb Wars

I found this befitting description from here, that I pasted below:
“For a few minutes everybody is typing away. A silence falls over the group and we all engage in a mass thumb-wrestling competition between man and little machine. Then the moment passes, the BlackBerrys and iPhones are reholstered, and we return to being humans again after a brief trance.”

It's very rare these days to meet anyone who doesn't have a phone. It's getting more and more affordable these days. Blackberry is undoubtedly the most used phone in Indonesia, replacing Nokia; widely popular due to its free messenger service (BBM - BlackBerry Messenger). It would be interesting if RIM suddenly decides to charge for the popular service.

The problem with having a smart phone or any other gadgets, tablets, is that people would be so busy playing with their gadgets, they isolate themselves from the real world. It's very common to see a group of people having lunch, but almost all of them are busy texting with their Blackberry.

How often do you see this scene?
Not, the texting sign ;D. It's not just children. I often see people with their eyes glued to the screen that they don't pay attention to their surroundings. When I see them, sometimes I don't move. I just let them bump into me. Just because they're busy texting, doesn't make them VIP and other people how to give them way. I find it rude and inconsiderate when people are texting and walking at the same time. How busy are they that they can't even stop for a minute?
